Top Things To Do This Easter In New Zealand

With Summer turning out to be a disappointment with rain, wind and snow in some places it’s no wonder the idea of escaping to somewhere idyllic is tempting, especially so soon after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. With this in mind, here’s our list of the top things to do this coming easter to make the most of your next break!

Dinosaurs In The Gardens (Wellington)

Yes, you read that correctly. Turn back the clock 200 million years to experience a lost world in Wellington’s Botanic Gardens with life-size dinosaurs and prehistoric trail walks. There’s plenty of time to see the dinosaurs over the weekend, with the exhibition open from 10am through to 3pm from Friday to Monday. Afterwards, the kids will love the Carter Observatory at the top of the Botanic Gardens. Take one of the many southern paths to the planetarium where the kids will be in awe of the celestial frontier above us.

We recommend staying at Harbour View, with plenty of room for the kids and a much needed complimentary bottle of wine for mum & dad after a long day!

Wairarapa Balloon Festival (Wairarapa)

Check out the annual Wairarapa Balloon Festival and experience the picturesque Wairarapa countryside like never before! Feel the roar of balloon burners with the Burner Parade on Thursday night followed by the Night Glow on Good Friday evening. Daily hour-long flights are running throughout the entire easter weekend from April 13th to the 17th, but you have to be quick as spaces onboard baskets are limited! To find out more visit the Wairarapa Balloon Festival website at

We recommend staying at the Tora Bay Exclusive Estate, a short 15 minute drive from Greytown and a stone’s throw away from the best wineries Martinborough has to offer!

Pop-up Globe Theatre (Auckland)

The world’s first temporary working replica of the Globe Theatre is back for 2017 following a twice-extended debut season in 2016 with over 100,000 tickets sold. This year, Shakespearean classics such as Much Ado About Nothing, Henry V and Othello will be sure to have you coming back for more.  The 2017 season will run from February 28th and conclude on May 14th, but hurry as tickets are expected to sell out fast! We recommend staying at Kotanui, with its spectacular views over the 15 metre infinity pool and close proximity to Shakespear Regional Park.

Cyndi Lauper & Blondie (Christchurch)

Two of the world’s iconic artists are descending on New Zealand for the Easter break, with epic arena shows scheduled for Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena (15th April). Experience Blondie’s classics such as Heart of Glass, The Tide Is High and Call Me and let loose with Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Time After Time and She Bop plus much more. Tickets are limited and be sure to book accomodation while you still can! Check out to book your tickets now.

To make the most of your stay and rest your ringing ear drums after the show, stay at the Richmond Town House and wake up refreshed for your next adventure.

That concludes our picks for the top things to do this Easter in New Zealand. Like all holidays in New Zealand, it pays to be quick so plan your amazing Easter getaway today!
